Pioneer Place Alzheimer's Residence of Tacoma is located in the Parkland / Spanaway area south of Tacoma and West of Puyallup and is easily accessible from the 512 Freeway. We are at 11519 24th Avenue East, 1 block south of the Washington State Patrol Center on the corner of 112th and 24th Avenue East. Pioneer Place specializes in caring for residents with dementia and most residents stay with us until the end of their life. Our staff is trained and has ongoing training in caring for people with dementia and special needs. Every resident room has climate control, private bathrooms with showers, call buttons for emergency assistance and hookups for telephone and television. All rooms are on the ground floor. There are no dead-end hallways in the buildings and one cannot get lost wandering. Residents are allowed to roam 24 hours a day and beverage and snacks are always available. Only access to offices, when uninhabited, and services areas are limited. Dining areas, T.V. lounges, and Activity areas are open to resident use 24 hours a day. The average resident to caregiver staffing ration is 8 to 1 depending on actual staffing needs. Some staff members care for 4 residents. Activity programs are conducted both in groups and individual settings dependent on the resident’s abilities. Activities include tailored exercise programs.
